
Eastern League Names Pitcher and Player of the Week

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of April 5th through April 15th:
Portland Sea Dogs outfielder Juan Carlos Linares has been named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of April 5th-April 15th. The 5'11", 190 lb. slugger batted .415 (17-for-41) with three doubles, three home runs, eight RBI, seven runs scored, five walks and a .707 slugging percentage in his first 11 games of the season. Linares, who is a native of Havana, Cuba, has reached base in each of the 11 games he has played in this season and has six multiple hit games and six games in which he has driven in or scored at least one run. He also homered in consecutive games on April 12th and April 13th, hitting the game-winning two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning of Portland's 4-3 come from behind win over Binghamton on Friday. The 27-year old currently leads the league in total bases (29) and is also among the leaders in batting average (.415-tied 1st), OPS (1.197-2nd), hits (17-tied 2nd), on-base percentage (.489-3rd), slugging percentage (.707-3rd), home runs (3-tied 3rd), extra-base hits (6-tied 5th), runs scored (7-tied 6th), RBI (8-tied 6th) and doubles (3-tied 10th). Juan Carlos was signed by the Boston Red Sox as a non-drafted free agent on July 8, 2010 after playing for eight seasons with La Habana of Cuba's Serie Nacional.
Greg Peavey, a right-handed starting pitcher for the Binghamton Mets, has been named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of April 5th-April 15th. The 23-year old made a pair of appearance for the B-Mets last week and had a record of 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 10.2 innings pitched. Peavey, who is a native of Vancouver, Washington, made his Double-A debut with the B-Mets last Monday at home against Erie and surrendered just two hits over 5.2 shutout innings of work in Binghamton's 8-0 victory. He struck out five batters and did not issue a walk while earning the win. The 6'2", 185 lb. hurler continued to impress in his second appearance of the season on Sunday at Portland, giving up four hits while striking out four batters and walking one over five shutout innings in a 9-2 victory. He currently leads the league in WHIP (0.66), is tied for the league lead in ERA (0.00) and is tied for second in wins (2). Greg, who posted a combined record of 11-6 with a 3.48 ERA and 108 strikeouts in 27 games between Class-A Savannah and Class-A St. Lucie last year, was selected by the New York Mets in the 6th round of the 2010 draft after putting together a record of 6-3 with 72 strikeouts and a 3.64 ERA in 15 starts during his junior season at Oregon State University.
