Altoona Curve News Release
HARRISBURG, Pa. - Altoona's offense came alive on Monday night in Harrisburg in support of starter Aaron Poreda's quality start in a, 5-2, win over the Harrisburg Senators at Metro Bank Park in the first game of the three-game series. Ramon Cabrera finished the game 3-for-4 and had three RBIs in the victory.
The Curve broke on the scoreboard first in the opening tilt, taking advantage of walks by 'Sens starter Paul Demny (0-1) in the third. Brock Holt led off the inning with a double and Jarek Cunningham walked behind him to put two on with no one out. Andrew Lambo, who was batting in the cleanup spot, put down a sac bunt to move the runners up 90 feet for Jeremy Farrell. Farrell, who returned to the team today from Triple-A, drew the second walk of the inning to load the bases for Cabrera, who delivered his bases-clearing double.
Harrisburg counter-punched with a two-run fourth off the Curve starter Poreda (2-0). Jeff Kobernus doubled to lead off the inning and scored on an RBI single by left fielder Chris Rahl. Rahl then stole second and third during Destin Hood's at bat to put Poreda in a tough spot. After Hood walked, Sandy Leon grounded into a double play that brought Rahl in to cut the Curve lead to one at 3-2.
Poreda settled in after that and went on to complete six innings, giving up just the pair of runs on five hits while striking out six. He received some run support from Robbie Grossman and the offense in the sixth when Grossman doubled in Adalberto Santos with two away. An inning later, Cunningham blasted his first Double-A home run to right to extend the lead back to three at 5-2.
Altoona's bullpen was once again solid, tossing three innings without allowing a run. Over the past four games, the entire pitching staff has combined to allow just six runs. Tonight it was Vic Black, Kris Harvey and Tim Alderson combining on the shutout relief. Alderson picked up his first professional save with a clean ninth.
Back at .500, Altoona (5-5) and Harrisburg (7-5) meet in the second game of the quick three-game series at 7 p.m. Tuesday night from Metro Bank Park in Harrisburg. RHP Mike Colla (0-1, 7.00) will start Tuesday night for the Curve and return to the place where he made his first pro start April 28, 2011. RHP Jeff Mandel (0-1, 1.54) will make the start in the second contest for Harrisburg.
Airtime on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. For tickets and more information on the upcoming Altoona Curve homestand that begins Thursday night, call 877.99.CURVE, visit www.AltoonaCurve.com or stop by the box office windows at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
