
Linares Named Eastern League Player of the Week

Portland, Maine- Portland Sea Dogs' outfielder Juan Carlos Linares has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the league's opening week spanning April 5th through 15th.
The 27-year old, Linares, has played in all 11 games this season for the Sea Dogs hitting .415 (17-for-41) with three home runs and eight RBI. He is tied for the Eastern League lead in hitting (.415), tied for second in home runs (3), and ranks third in hits (17), on base percentage (.489), and slugging percentage (.707). He also leads the Eastern League with 27 total bases.
Linares hit a home run in game two of the Sea Dogs' opening day doubleheader in Reading, Pennsylvania on April 5th. As the lead-off batter in the Sea Dogs' home opener on Thursday, April 12th, he deposited the first pitch over the centerfield wall for his second home run. He followed by smashing a game winning two run homer in the eighth inning on Saturday, April 13th to give the Sea Dogs a 4-3 win over the Binghamton Mets. Linares has reached base safely in all 11 games and has hit safely in 10 of the 11 games this season including the last seven straight.
Linares, a native of Cuba, was signed by the Boston Red Sox as an international free agent on July 8, 2010. The 5'11" right-handed slugger was limited to just 17 games with Triple-A Pawtucket last season due to injury. In his first professional season in the United States in 2010, he appeared in 13 games for the Sea Dogs.
The last Sea Dog to earn an Eastern League Player of the Week award was Jeremy Hazelbaker for the week of August 22-29, 2011.
