
Defensive Miscues Cost Baysox

Akron, OH - The Bowie Baysox (4-8) allowed two runs on errors and one on a wild pitch as they dropped the opener of a three-game set to the Akron Aeros (7-3) 6-3 on Monday night.
The Baysox allowed two more unearned runs in the game and have now given up a league high 14 unearned runs.
The Aeros got out to the early lead in the second inning. With Roberto Perez at first and Ben Copeland at third, Bobby Bundy tried to pick Perez off, but threw the ball away and Copeland scored to give Akron a 1-0 lead.
They added to their lead in the third. Jared Goedert led off with a single and with one out Adam Abraham also singled. Ryan Rohlinger then followed with a three-run home run to extend the Aeros lead to 4-0.
In the fourth inning, the Baysox got on the board. L.J. Hoes led off with a single and Zelous Wheeler doubled to put two runners in scoring position. Manny Machado then knocked them both in with a single to center to cut the lead in half to 4-2.
The Aeros added two more runs in the fifth inning. With one out Chun Chen doubled and Abraham walked. With Rohlinger batting, Chen scored on a wild pitch and Abraham went to third. Then with two outs in the inning Copeland reached on an error and on the play Abraham scored to make the score 6-2.
Brandon Waring got one run back in the ninth on a solo home run to cut the lead to 6-3. It was the third straight game he has homered in.
Bryce Stowell got the win pitching three shutout innings in relief and striking out seven batters.
Bobby Bundy picked up the loss. He went 4.2 innings and allowed six runs, four earned on seven hits while striking out three and walking three.
Tomorrow in game two of the series the Baysox will send LHP Jacob Pettit (1-0, 2.25) to the mound to take on the Aeros' LHP TJ McFarland (2-0, 0.82).
The Baysox return to Bowie on Thursday, April 26 for a seven-game homestand that includes Pie Day and appearances by current and former Washington Mystics and Wizards players.
