Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. Dylan Floro (8-6) never let a runner past second base in his nine inning, complete game shutout in a 3-0 win for the Biscuits (43-43/8-8) over the Mississippi Braves (49-36/10-6) Friday night in front of the third-largest crowd in Riverwalk Stadium History.
Floro's gem is the first nine inning, shutout for the Biscuits this season and the first for the Biscuits since Victor Mateo's no hitter in August of 2013. Floro allowed eight hits, all of them singles while collecting 18 outs via the groundball. All three outs in the ninth inning were ground balls to second.
Floro diced up the Braves with 88 pitches and 66 for strikes. The closest a runner came to third base was when Kyle Wren tried to go first to third on a single from Cedric Hunter in the first inning. Wren was thrown out at third base by Taylor Motter for his twelfth outfield assist of the season. The Braves only had two runners reach second base, not counting Wren trying to go first to third.
The Braves have had fits trying to solve Floro. Mississippi has now scored two runs in 29.1 innings with Floro on the hill.
The Biscuits got on the board in the second inning with a walk drawn by Jake DePew and a double from Ryan Brett. With runners on second and third, Jason Hursh (6-6) threw two wild pitches that allowed two runs to score and give the Biscuits a 2-0 lead. Richie Shaffer singled in a run in the sixth inning to make it 3-0 Montgomery.
The game was a swift two hours and seven minutes in front of 7,520 fans.
Game two of the series is Saturday night at 6:35. RH Albert Suarez will make his first start of the year for the Biscuits. The Braves will have RH Greg Ross on the mound.
