Diaz's Hit Leads Stars to Victory

Huntsville, AL - Huntsville Stars DH Robinson Diaz broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the seventh inning with an rbi double down the left field line giving the Stars a 4-3 lead. That proved to be the final score as the Stars beat the Jackson Generals in front of a sellout crowd of 10,596 Friday night at Joe Davis Stadium in Huntsville.

The Generals got in the scoreboard first in the top of the first inning against Huntsville starter Jacob Barnes.

The Generals got four straight singles including back to back rbi singles by D.J. Peterson and Julio Morban putting them ahead 2-0.

The Stars tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the second.

With two outs and two on base, Shea Vucinich lined a two-run single over the third baseman's head scoring Lucas May and Greg Hopkins.

The Generals recaptured the lead in the top of the third inning on a two-out rbi single by Morban putting Jackson back in front 3-2.

The Stars tied the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Josh Prince doubled to left field scoring Yadiel Rivera which knotted the game at 3-3.

The Stars then took their only lead of the night in the seventh on Diaz's clutch hit to put the Stars ahead 4-3.

The Stars received excellent bullpen work from the duo of Greg Holle and David Goforth.

Holle, who earned the win to improve to 1-1 threw 1.2 scoreless innings.

Goforth, nailed down his seventeenth save of the season after a two inning save. Goforth struck out the side in the bottom of the ninth to end the Stars four game losing streak.

Barnes, who took a no decision worked 5.1 innings. He allowed seven hits on three runs(two earned).

The Stars(8-8, 54-32) lead the Generals(4-12,35-50)1-0 in their five game series. Game two of the series will be Saturday at Joe Davis Stadium in Huntsville. The Stars will have LHP Jed Bradley(1-4, 4.80) on the mound. Jackson will send RHP Stephen Landazuri(3-2, 3.55) to the hill.
