Birmingham Barons News Release
Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons utilized the long ball and a strong outing from starter Scott Snodgress in Thursday's 7-2 win over the Chattanooga Lookouts in front of 6,145 fans at AT&T Field.
Snodgress (5-6, 4.05) surrendered both Lookouts runs in the first inning on RBI hits by Daniel Mayora and O'Koyea Dickson as Chattanooga built an early 2-0 lead.
The Barons battled back to tie the game after single runs in the top of the third and fourth innings. Dan Black started the scoring with an RBI base hit in the third while Josh Richmond's RBI groundout in the fourth brought home the tying run.
A recently potent offense stretched it's wings during a three-run fifth, gettingback-to-back homers from Black and Trayce Thompson along with an RBI triple by Jamie Pedroza to take a 5-2 lead. The home run was Thompson's team-leading 10th of the season while Black finished 3-for-5 and is hitting .400 in seven games with the Barons so far this season.
Snodgress scattered seven hits over 7.0 innings while picking up his fifth win of theseason. Lookouts starter Raydel Sanchez (1-5, 6.06) allowed seven runs on ten hits over 5.1 IP in the game.
Barons first baseman doubled in his first two at-bats, extending his Southern League-best hitting streak to 20 games. The streak is tied for the third-longest in team history behind Sumpter Clarke (33 games) and Doug Brady (27 games).
OF Jared Mitchell followed up Wednesday's historic performance by going 2-for-5 with a run scored and is hitting .340 with the Barons this season.
With the win, the Barons stretched their winning streak to three games and improved to 8-6 in the second half. They took 4-of-5 games against the Lookouts and will look to build on that success when they return home over July 4th weekend to face the first place Tennessee Smokies. The Barons will send RHPMike Recchia (3-2, 3.24) to the hill in game one against RHP Dae-Eun Rhee (5-3, 3.10). First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6:00 PM CDT.
