Rochester Americans News Release

(Rochester, NY)... Florida Panthers General Manager Dale Tallon announced today that the club has recalled goaltender Tyler Plantefrom the Rochester Americans. In a related move, the Amerks also promoted netminder Brian Foster from the ECHL's Cincinnati Cyclones.

Plante, 23, earns his first call-up to the National Hockey League this season after spending the entire campaign in Rochester. A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the 6-foot-3, 191-pound netminder has readily assumed the starting duties after fellow goaltender Jacob Markstrom went down with a season-ending knee injury.

Plante, coming off a career-long streak of starting 15 consecutive games, shows a 13-14-2 record with one shutout in 32 appearances between the pipes for Rochester this season. Florida's second-round selection (32nd overall) in 2005, Plante also boasts a 3.04 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage. His 13 victories are already good for a new AHL career-high.

Plante can potentially make his NHL debut tonight when the Panthers visit the New York Rangers at 7:00 p.m. at Madison Square Garden.

Foster, 24, rejoins the Amerks this evening after receiving his third American Hockey League promotion to Rochester this season. Foster, a product from the University of New Hampshire, is 8-4-1 with a pair of shutouts to go along with a 2.32 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage in 14 ECHL games with Cincinnati this season. He currently ranks among league netminders in both categories.

Prior to joining the Cyclones, the Pembroke, New Hampshire, native compiled a 9-9-1 record with a 3.20 goals-against average and a .884 save percentage in 20 outings with the CHL's Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs to start the season. He posted a 7-1-0 record in his first eight starts of the season and was named the CHL's Goaltender of the Month for October after closing out the first month of the 2010-11 campaign with a perfect 3-0-0 mark. Foster, a fifth-round selection by the Florida Panthers in 2005, attended Amerks training camp this fall.

Foster and the rest of the Amerks will be in action tonight as they kickoff the first of back-to-back tilts with the first-place Lake Erie Monsters at Quicken Loans Arena. Faceoff for the North Division showdown is set for 7:00 p.m. The same two teams meet again on Friday, March 25th as the home-and-home series shifts to The Blue Cross Arena for a 7:35 p.m. start in downtown Rochester. Both contests will be carried live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk. Friday's game will also be broadcast live on Time Warner Cable SportsNet Channel 26.
