
Fletcher Leads Cougars Past Snappers

BELOIT, Wisc. - Brian Fletcher went 4-for-5 with four RBIs to lead an 11-hit attack as the Kane County Cougars cruised to a 10-4 win over the Beloit Snappers at Pohlman Field on Thursday night. The Cougars are 4-2 on their seven-game road trip and 7-0 in Beloit this season. They continue to hold a four-game lead for the top playoff spot in the Western Division, now with 31 games remaining.
Fletcher nailed a three-run homer in the top of the first off Sam Spangler (0-1), and the Cougars led the rest of the way. Jake Kuebler also connected on a two-run triple during a three-run fourth, one of six extra-base hits the Cougars had. Geulin Beltre and Orlando Calixte scored on wild pitches in the seventh, and Fletcher and Juan Graterol drove in runs in the ninth to round out the team's scoring. The Cougars have outscored Beloit, 22-6 in three games in the set.
Starter Santiago Garrido gave up four runs on two hits in 4 1/3 innings in a no-decision. He walked three, struck out five and uncorked three wild pitches. Cole White (1-0) worked 1 2/3 scoreless innings to register the win, and Jason Mitchell tossed three scoreless frames to earn his first save. The Cougars have won nine of their 13 2nd Half series and are a season-high nine games over .500. The Cougars (24-15, 52-56) and Snappers (17-22, 55-54) conclude the four-game series Friday night at 7 CT, and it will mark the end of the Cougars' seven-game road trip. Greg Billo (8-2, 1.48) is scheduled to face B.J. Hermsen (11-7, 3.08). The game will be broadcast on WBIG 1280-AM and online via kccougars.com with pregame coverage starting at 6:45 p.m.
