Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - The TinCaps lost to the Bowling Green Hot Rods, 4-1, Thursday at Bowling Green Ballpark. Three of the runners who scored for the Hot Rods reached via walks.
It was the fifth straight loss for the TinCaps, who stranded runners in scoring position in six different innings; Bowling Green has won its last six in a row.
The Hot Rods got on the board in the bottom of the second. Steve Tinoco reached on a leadoff walk, went to third on a hit-and-run single by Robby Price. Mayo Acosta bounced into a run- scoring double play to bring Tinoco home.
Fort Wayne tied it the next half-inning. Rico Noel led off with a single, stole second and went to third on an infield hit by Rymer Liriano. Liriano was picked off first base, but garnered a rundown which gave Noel time to race home and score; Liriano advanced to second to make it a double steal.
Bowling Green plated a run in the fifth, again thanks to a leadoff walk. Acosta drew the free pass and the next two batters singled to load the bases. Kevin Kiermaier stroked a liner to left and Luis Domoromo fired to third to nail the runner and turn it into an RBI fielder's choice, making it 2-1. RHP Zach Cates battled out of the inning from there with no further damage.
The Hot Rods scored two more in the sixth. Tinoco drew a one-out walk and scored when Price followed with a double. Two batters later, Nick Schwaner cracked an RBI triple to right-center to give Bowling Green a 4-1 lead.
Bowling Green RHP Victor Mateo (11-5) received the win in relief, spinning three shutout innings. LHP Chris Rearick grabbed his 17th save with two more scoreless frames. Fort Wayne RHP Zach Cates (3-7) was charged with the loss.
The TinCaps fell to 19-20 in the half, 49-59 for the season. Bowling Green improved to 21-18 since the all-star break, 62-47 on the year.
The TinCaps and Hot Rods (Class-A Tampa Bay Rays) finish the four-game series Friday at 8:05 p.m. ET. TinCaps RHP Dennis O'Grady (1-0) duels with Hot Rods LHP Braulio Lara (3-8).
