South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

Lansing, MI - Yazy Arbelo tied the South Bend Silver Hawks' single season franchise record with his 25th home run of the season, but the Hawks fell to the Lansing Lugnuts 2-1 in 10 innings on Thursday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.

Arbelo's homer in the second inning against Marcus Walden (ND) was the only run of the night for the Silver Hawks. He took the ball over the fence in straightaway centerfield, tying Billy Martin from the 2000 squad with his 25th home run this season.

Tyler Green (ND) did his best to make the homer stand up, pitching 5.0 scoreless innings in his best outing in over a month. The right-hander allowed only one hit and struck out three before turning the ball over to the bullpen.

Patrick Schuster (BS, 1) took over in the sixth inning and battled his way through three innings, but gave up the lead. With one out in the sixth, Carlos Perez doubled to left and Jake Marisnick hit an infield single. After Marcus Knecht walked to load the bases, Schuster threw a wild pitch to bring home the tying run.

It stayed 1-1 until the bottom of the tenth. Silver Hawks reliever Jeremy Erben (LP, 3-2) had pitched around a leadoff double in the ninth, but couldn't do so again in the tenth. Michael Crouse had the double to start the defining inning and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Perez. Marisnick and Knecht were intentionally walked to load the bases and manager Mark Haley brought in lefty Eury De La Rosa (ND) to face left-handed hitting K.C. Hobson. Hobson took the first pitch to right field for a sacrifice fly with Crouse beating the throw home to give the Lugnuts a walk off win.

Both teams were held to five hits on the night as the pitching dominated from the beginning. Shawn Griffith (WP, 4-0) pitched a scoreless top of the tenth to earn his fourth win of the year.

Among the few offensive highlights on the night, Roberto Ortiz had one of the five hits for South Bend, extending his hitting streak to eight straight. Jhoan Pimentel added two singles for the Hawks.

The Lugnuts and Silver Hawks wrap up the four game series at 7:05 PM Eastern Time on Friday night. South Bend will start RHP Mike Bolsinger (4-5, 2.78 ERA) against Lansing's LHP Sean Nolin (2-2, 3.67 ERA). Pre-game coverage begins at 6:45 PM Eastern Time on www.sportsjuice.com and www.silverhawks.com.
