Brockton Rox News Release

MA (June 3, 2008) - The Sussex Skyhawks (4-8) defeated the Brockton Rox (7-5) for the third time in four meetings with a 10-4 victory at Skylands Park on Tuesday night. The Skyhawks chased Rox starter Wayne Lundgren in the fourth inning with five straight hits to start the inning.

The early innings provided a back and forth battle between the two teams. Sussex took the first lead of the game with an RBI single by RF Jorge Moreno in the first inning. The Rox answered right back in the second by loading the bases with nobody out. 2B Melvin Falu grounded into a double play, but 1B Francsisco Lebron scored on the play to tie the game.

In the top of the third inning, Brockton took a 2-1 lead on CF Ervin Alcantara's second home run of the season. Unfortunately for the Rox and starter Lundgren, every batter in the Skyhawks' lineup proved to be a tough out on Tuesday night. Sussex scored two runs in the third inning behind three hits, and then tacked on five more runs on six hits in the fourth inning. Six of the first seven batters in the fourth inning had base hits for the Skyhawks. Lundgren departed after just 3 1/3 innings, having allowed 8 runs on 11 hits.

The Rox pushed across two more runs in the fifth inning, but Sussex tallied twice in the seventh to lead to the 10-4 final score. The Rox received a strong performance out of the bullpen from RHP Rich Babb, a native of Ashland, MA, who pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings while allowing just one hit. Sussex also received a solid outing from RHP Matt Salvato who recorded the win with five scoreless innings of relief.

The Rox and Skyhawks finish the three-game series on Wednesday morning with a 10:05 AM first pitch. RHP John Kelly (2-0, 0.00) will start for Brockton opposite Sussex RHP Craig Snipp (0-1, 1.35 ERA).
