American Defenders of New Hampshire News Release

(NASHUA, N.H., June 3, 2008) Nashua Pride starting pitcher Hideki Nagasaka improved his record to 2-0 with a 1-0 victory over the Ottawa Rapidz on Tuesday night.

The Pride scored the only run of the game when, to lead off the top of the fourth inning, left fielder Aregenis Tavarez ripped a triple into the right field corner. Later in the inning, with two outs and Luis Rodriguez at the plate, Rapidz starter Adam Hawes threw a 1-2 pitch wildly, ricocheting up the first base line. Tavarez scrambled home to score the eventual winning run.

Nagasaka made his longest start of the season, going six and a third shut-out innings, allowing just five hits, two walks and one strike out. The right hander retired the first eight Rapidz he faced before giving up the first hit against him, a double in the third inning.

The Pride bullpen also pitched superbly. Left hander Mike Joyce entered the game with one out in the seventh inning, and the tying run at third base, specifically to face left handed hitter Jared Lemieux. Joyce induced a ground out back to the pitcher, completing his assignment.

Jarrett Stawarz was the next Pride pitcher out of the bullpen, and with two outs and runners on the corners, he struck out Jereme Milons to end the Ottawa threat. Stawarz went on to complete the eighth inning before making way for closer Andrew Weimer in the ninth inning. Weimer retired the side in order to pick up his second save of the season and seal the Pride's fourth win of the year (4-7).

The Pride and Radpiz play game two of the three game set at Ottawa Stadium Wednesday night, when the Pride send Lance Stevens to the mound (1-0).

The Nashua Pride Professional Baseball Club, entering its 11th season, provides a fun, affordable, community-based and fan-friendly source of sports entertainment. The 2007 Can-Am League Champions will be participating in its third year of play in the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball.
