Frazier, Kelly Take Home Weekly Awards

DURHAM, NC - PA-Sportsticker, the Can-Am League's official statistician, has selected Sussex Skyhawks OF Alex Frazier and Brockton Rox RHP John Kelly as the Teamline Direct Batter and Pitcher of the Week.

In seven games, Frazier batted .481 with three home runs, 10 RBI and 13 hits. He also plated eight runs, collected three doubles and had an on-base percentage of .500. In Wednesday's 15-4 win over the Brockton Rox, Frazier went 4-for-6 with two runs scored and three RBI. On the season, Frazier is hitting .326 with three home runs, 10 RBI and 10 runs scored. He is tied for second in the league with seven extra base hits.

The Dunnellon, FL resident was a 30th round selection of the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2001 MLB draft. He spent five seasons with the D-Backs system from 2002-2006. Last season, Frazier split time with New Jersey and Sussex along with Bridgeport of the Atlantic League.

Kelly was simply dominant in the 8-1 win over the Nashua Pride Friday night. The righthander went 7 2/3 strong innings allowing no runs and only three hits with one walk and 11 strikeouts. Kelly has not allowed an earned run in 14 innings pitched this season and is second in the Can-Am with 19 strikeouts.

The 35-year-old veteran was drafted in the11th round by the New York Mets in June of 1994. He pitched two plus seasons in the Mets organization along with time in the Pittsburgh Pirates and Seattle Mariners farm systems. Kelly has played with independent clubs including Minot, Waterbury, North Shore and New Jersey and in the Mexican League with Saltillo and Yucatan.
