Frederick Keys News Release

With scheduled starter Jake Renshaw being placed on the disabled list before tonight's game, Frederick pitching coach Blaine Beatty had to turn to his bullpen for all nine innings tonight. They obliged, one-hitting Lynchburg, as the Keys defeated the Hillcats 5-0.

Brett Bordes was Frederick's starter. He set the tone with two hitless innings, walking just one batter. The Keys got him some run support early. In the first, Jason White and Brandon Snyder hit back-to-back singles. With runners on the corners and one man out, Chris Vinyard hit a bouncing ball to third baseman Eddie Prasch. He booted it, allowing a run to come in and score. Frederick led 1-0.

Keys would then send nine batters to the plate in the third inning. The Hillcats made three errors in the third, allowing four runs to score on just two hits. The Keys took a 5-0 lead.

Ryan Ouellette threw two hitless innings in relief as well, walking two and striking out two. Mick Mattaliano came in to pitch the fifth. He surrendered the first and only Lynchburg hit of the ball game in the sixth, a one-out double down the leftfield line by Brian Friday. Mattaliano worked out of the jam.

Frederick's newest relief pitcher, right-hander Jose Barajas, came in to pitch the seventh. He too tossed two hitless innings. Things got a little hairy in the eighth when Barajas hit a batter and walked two, but he was able to work out of the jam, shutout intact.

Ryan Rodriguez pitched a perfect ninth to seal the deal for the Keys tonight.

Snyder and Miguel Abreu each had three hits in the victory.

Ouellette got the win, improving to 4-7. Michael Crotta got the loss. He allowed all five runs, three earned, on six hits. His record drops to 9-10.

The Keys and Hillcats will meet in the second contest of a three-game series tomorrow night in Lynchburg. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.

The Keys return to Frederick on Friday, August 28th, to open up a four-game set with the Winston-Salem Warthogs. It will be the final series of the season for the Keys. For ticket information, contact our box office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS.
