Potomac Nationals News Release

WOODBRIDGE, Va.- The Potomac Nationals announced today that infielder Matt Rogelstad has rejoined the team after appearing in the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, and making a brief stint with Double-A Harrisburg. To create room on the active roster for Rogestad, Edulin Abreu has been placed on the disabled list.

A native of New Westminister, BC, Rogelstad played for a Canadian Team that placed fifth at the Olympics but lost five of its last six games by one run and failed to qualify for the medal rounds. The Canadians, who finished with a 2-5 record, were ousted by Chinese Taipei in a 6-5 extra-inning loss. Rogelstad hit .080 with one RBI and was the primary third baseman during Team Canada's run.

Promoted to the Senators on July 9, the slugger played well in 14 games batting a healthy .314 with two doubles and eight RBI. Rogelstad was a staple in Potomac's lineup earlier this year appearing in 79 games and batting .274 with 39 RBI. The 25-year-old's eight home runs in 2008 doubled his career total to 16. Rogelstad was rewarded for his performance and was selected as the starting second baseman at the 2008 Carolina/California League All-Star Game in Myrtle Beach.

The Arkansas State product had a stellar 2007 season with the P-Nats leading the club in average (.302) and hits (122), earning him Potomac's Player of the Year Award. He just missed winning the Carolina League batting title ultimately finishing third behind Mitch Einertson and Billy Hart of Salem. Acquired from the Seattle Mariners in 2007, Rogelstad received a midseason call-up to the Senators last year appearing in one game with three at-bats.

Abreu is battling a left knee infection and has struggled in his relief role since joining the Nationals going 1-1 with a 13.21 ERA. In his last outing on August 23 against Lynchburg, the right-hander surrendered five runs in 1 2/3 innings with three walks. No timetable has been set for his return.

The moves leave the Potomac Nationals with 25 players on their active roster, 11 pitchers and 14 position players.
