LYNCHBURG HILLCATS (25-37, 54-78) vs. FREDERICK KEYS (26-37, 60-73)
August 25th, 2008 -- 7:05 PM
Calvin Falwell Field @ Lynchburg City Stadium
RHP Michael Crotta (9-9, 4.82) vs. LHP Brett Bordes (0-1, 11.57)
THE HILLCATS: Lynchburg completed a three-game sweep of Potomac last night with an 8-5 win at Pfitzner Stadium...The Hillcats finshed their road season with their best road trip of the year, going 5-1 on the final trip...Tonight is the first game of a seven-game homestand, the last games of the 2008 regular season for the Cats...
VS. FREDERICK: The Keys are 10-7 against the Hillcats this season and are 3-3 at City Stadium against Lynchburg...Last year the Hillcats dominated the series with the Keys, winning 15 out of 20 games in 2007, including eight out of ten in Frederick...The Cats have the all-time advantage 144-128, and are 75-62 in the Hill City...
PHAT AT THE PFITZ: With their 8-5 victory last night Lynchburg finished their season series with Potomac with four straight wins at Pfitzner Stadium to improve to 6-4 at the home of the Nationals...That was the Hillcats best road record in 2008 against an opponent...
ROLLING ON THE ROAD: The sweep of Potomac gave Lynchburg back-to-back road series wins for the first time since June 6th-11th...That was the only other time this season they had won two straight road series...The Hillcats entered the past road trip with a 12-game road losing skid and had lost 15 out of their last 16 to drop to 21-43 (.328 winning percentage) away from the Hill City...Their series win against Frederick was their first road series victory since June 29-July 1st when they took two out of three from Wilmington at Frawley Stadium...
STEPPED UP D: On the six-game road trip the Hillcats committed just two errors...When they went error less in the first three games it marked the first time all season the Cats had gone three consecutive games without an error...
STELLAR STARTS: Over the past road trip the starters went a combined 4-0 with a 2.84 ERA (12 earned runs in 38 innings)...RHP Matt McSwain earned his first victory as a Hillcat Saturday night, LHP Tony Watson did not allow an earned run on Friday night, RHP Brad Lincoln had his best start as a Cat on Thursday night allowing just one run and striking out seven and LHP Brian Holliday pitched a season-high eight innings and struckout a season-high nine batters in the win on Tuesday, one of his two victories on the trip...
SPECIAL SWEEP: Lynchburg earned their first road sweep of the season last night by taking all three games with Potomac...The Hillcats had just one sweep on the year when they took three games from Salem July 2nd-4th at City Stadium...Potomac was the last remaining team in the league that had not been swept... The Cats did not have a chance to go for a road sweep this season until Thursday night after they won the first two games of the series at Frederick...They won back-to-back series after going 1-9-2 in their last 12 series...Last season Lynchburg had two road sweeps, both at Fredrick (the last one was July 11th-14th)...All three sweeps the Cats had last year were against the Keys...
KILLER KEEL: LF Jared Keel swatted another home run last night to give him three dingers in his last two games...Saturday night was his second multi-homer game of the season, the fifth of his career and it was the fifth time this season a Hillcat has accomplished the feat...Keel now has 19 home runs which passes Jamie Romak for the most by a Hillcat this year, ties him for third in the league and gives him three more home runs than his previous career-high of 16 long balls last season (which ranked fourth among Pirate farmhands)...In the three-game series at Potomac he went 4-for-8 with a double, three homers, 6 RBI, seven runs scored and five walks...At one point he reached in eight out of nine plate appearances with three home runs, four walks and a hit by a pitch...
STILL STREAKING: INF Jose De Los Santos and 1B Kent Sakamoto both extended their current hit streaks with hits last night...De Los Santos has gone 13-for-34 (.382) with a double, a triple, five runs scored and three RBI during his eight-game streak...1B Kent Sakamoto is riding a seven-game hitting streak and over that time he is 12-for-27 (.444) with three doubles, a homer, eight runs scored and three RBI...In the series against the P-Nats the first baseman went 6-for-12 with two doubles and four runs scored...SS Brian Friday had his seven game streak snapped last night...He had gone 10-for-30 with two doubles, a homer, seven runs, four RBI and four walks over that stretch...
CATCHER'S CAREER NIGHT: C Chris Jones went 4-for-5 with three RBI in last night's win at Potomac...The four hits were a career-high for Jones and the three RBI were a season-high and matched a career-mark...
