Johnstown Chiefs News Release

Johnstown, PA - The Johnstown Chiefs earned three out of a possible four points in the standings this weekend thanks to a 5-2 win over the Trenton Devils on Saturday night.

Jason Spence started the scoring for the Chiefs, crashing the net, literally, to put a rebound past Devils goalie Jason Smith at 8:50 of the first. Spence toppled over Smith after poking the puck over the goal line. Randy Rowe followed on at 15:44 to give Johnstown a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.

Trenton would score two consecutive goals to tie the game, one by Andrew Leach in the second, and one by Stephen Wood in the third. Andrew Penner would not let in any more goals, though, and third period tallies by Jean Desrochers, Rob Drummond, and Ryan Garlock would give the Chiefs their largest margin of victory on the year.

Penner finished with 28 saves against 30 Trenton shots, while Smith was good for 30 of 35 against Johnstown shooters. The Chiefs scored a power play goal for the fifth straight game, going 2-for-4, while Trenton was 1-for-4.

Johnstown returns to action at the UPMC Health Plan Ice Rink at the Cambria County War Memorial on Wednesday, October 21 at 7:05. That game will mark the beginning of Johnstown's biggest gainer contest with the winner to be determined by the scales the day after the Thanksgiving holiday.
