
Fisher Cats earn victory

New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
New Britain, CT- Brett Cecil pitched five shutout innings to win for the third consecutive time, and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats matched a season high by capturing their third straight victory, 3-1, over the New Britain Rock Cats before 5,422 fans at New Britain Stadium on Wednesday night. Cecil (3-1) scattered five hits and struck out four, and Zach Dials pitched a perfect ninth inning for his 11th save.
An unearned run staked New Hampshire (30-46) to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Travis Snider and Jacob Butler singled off losing pitcher Ryan Mullins, and Snider (2-for-4, R) scored when outfielder Brock Peterson committed a throwing error on an Anthony Hatch (2-for-3) single.
In the top of the fourth inning, J.P. Arencibia (1-for-4, HR, RBI) tagged a 2-2 offering from Mullins (6-6) over the left field wall for his second home run of the season, giving the Fisher Cats a 2-0 lead.
Butler (2-for-3, 3B, BB, R) led off the seventh inning against Mullins (7 IP, 3 R, 2 ER, 7 H, 2 BB, 5 K) with a triple off the centerfield wall and scored on a sacrifice fly by Eric Nielsen (0-for-3, SF, RBI).
New Britain (33-43) ended a stretch of 17 1/3 scoreless innings with a run in the bottom of the eighth inning. With two outs, Jared Gothreaux yielded a single to Danny Valencia (2-for-4, R) and walked Brock Peterson (1-for-3, BB). Jo Matumoto entered and allowed Erik Lis (2-for-4, 2B, RBI) to lace his Eastern League-leading 28th double, scoring Valencia and putting the tying run on second base. Matumoto recovered to strike out David Winfree (1-for-3, BB) looking, keeping it a 3-1 lead.
By retiring the side in order for his 11th save, Dials moved into a tie with Lee Gronkiewicz for fifth place on the Fisher Cats' all-time single-season saves list and Jesse Carlson for fifth place on the club's all-time saves list.
The Fisher Cats and Rock Cats wrap up their four-game series with a 12:05pm matinee at New Britain Stadium. New Hampshire right-hander Brandon Magee (0-10, 5.92) takes the mound against New Britain right-hander Anthony Swarzak (3-4, 4.85).
