Jake Wald followed with a single, Antoan Richardson sacrificed Wald to second but the throw to first base caromed off Richardson's back as he reached on the error. Ben Copeland laid down a sac bunt of his own to put both runners in scoring position and Olmo Rosario drove both men home on a line-drive double to left to give the Defs a 3-1 advantage.
Connecticut was back to their old tricks in the bottom of the sixth as Richardson came up big with two on and two out as he slapped a single through the right side as the Defenders pushed their lead to 5-1.
