
Fisher Cats beat Defenders 8-2 Sunday afternoon

New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Norwich, CT---The first five Fisher Cats to bat reached safely and all scored and New Hampshire topped Connecticut 8-2 before 1,698 Sunday afternoon at Dodd Stadium.
New Hampshire (21-17) sent 11 batters to the plate in the first inning against spot starter Dan Griffin (1-3) and reliever Mike Musgrave. Brad Emaus, Adam Calderone and Brian Dopirak (2-4, 2B, RBI, 2 R) started the inning with singles - Dopirak's hit scored Emaus to make it 1-0. After David Cooper walked, Nick Gorneault (2-for-4, 2B, 3 RBI, 2 R) doubled Calderone and Dopirak in to make it 3-0. Sean Shoffit grounded out, but drove in Cooper. Al Quintana added an RBI double to make it 5-0.
The Fisher Cats scored three more runs in the top of the second inning. Dopirak doubled and scored on a double by Cooper. Gorneault picked up his third RBI of the game with a single and Luis Sanchez added a sacrifice fly.
Rey Gonzalez (2-1) picked up his first win since April 9, allowing five hits and one earned run. He did not walk anyone and struck out a season-high eight batters.
Connecticut (20-17) picked up a run on Brett Pill's double off Gonzalez in the top of the fourth inning. The other Defenders run scored on a Brock Bond RBI single off Adrian Martin in the bottom of the seventh inning.
In the completion of Saturday's game which was stopped after one inning because of fog. The Defenders made a first-inning RBI double by Eddy Martinez-Esteve stand up for a 1-0 win.
Madison Bumgarner (2-0) worked six scoreless innings, allowing one hit (a Cody Haerther double), walking three and striking out nine to earn the win. Joe Paterson and Dan Otero worked two innings of scoreless relief with Otero picking up his ninth save.
Randy Boone (3-1), who allowed the double to Martinez-Esteve before the game was suspended was the hard-luck loser. Casey Janssen worked 5.2 scoreless innings in his second rehab appearance for the Fisher Cats, allowing five hits, walking one and striking out three. Rommie Lewis, Leon Boyd and Edgar Estanga all worked scoreless relief for New Hampshire.
The roadtrip continues for New Hampshire on Tuesday night in Portland. It will be the first meeting of the year between the Fisher Cats and the Sea Dogs. LHP Luis Perez (2-4, .369) will start for New Hampshire against Portland RHP Ryne Lawson (0-1, 4.70). The Fisher Cats return home next Friday night, May 22, to open a series against the Trenton Thunder at 7:05pm.
