New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - Matthew Fox outlasted Portland's Junichi Tazawa in what started as a tight pitcher's duel as the Rock Cats downed the Sea Dogs, 4-2 on Sunday afternoon.

Portland took advantage of miscues by the Rock Cats in the third to get on the board. Ryan Khoury led off the inning with a single and Ryan Kalish followed with a walk. Fox came back to strike out Red Sox prospect Lars Anderson. He then forced Aaron Bates into what appeared would be an inning-ending double play. Kalish was out at second on a play by shortstop Yancarlos Ortiz but second baseman Steve Tolleson's throw to first to complete the double play was in the dirt and allowed Khoury to score and Bates to reach first.

The Rock Cats battled back in the sixth with a leadoff triple by Juan Portes and a single by Ortiz that knocked in Portes to tie the game, 1-1. Tolleson added an RBI triple that scored Danny Lehmann, who had reached base on a force out, and put the Rock Cats on top, 2-1. Rene Tosoni rounded out the three-run inning with an RBI double to right field.

Brian Dinkelman added an RBI double in the seventh.

Fox (2-2) struck out six while scattering four hits and allowing two runs - one unearned - through 5 1/3 innings. Robert Delaney tossed 2 2/3 shutout innings in relief and Anthony Slama survived two walks in the ninth to finish off the Dogs and pick up his seventh save.

Tazawa (4-3) finished with three runs on seven hits. He struck out seven.
