Altoona Curve News Release
GAME 1
WP: Ryan Edell (1-0) LP: Mike Crotta (3-1)
ALTOONA, PA - The Curve could not keep their previous night's momentum going offensively or defensively as the Curve fell to Akron 8-2 in game one of Sunday's doubleheader at Blair County Ballpark.
Akron scored first on an unearned run caused by a fielding error. Mickey Hall singled in another run in the fifth inning and then Hall was brought home on a bloop single by Jerad Head to put the Aeros up 3-0.
The Aeros continued to pour it on in the sixth when Nick Weglarz hit an RBI single to right center and then a sacrifice fly scored Jared Goedert before Head doubled to deep left center to plate two and put Akron ahead 7-0.
Ryan Edell (1-0) picks up the win for Akron throwing five innings allowing no runs on three hits with five strikeouts and no walks.
Mike Crotta (3-1) gets his first loss of the season after giving up six runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.
The Curve scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh in a comeback attempt that fell short.
GAME 2
WP: Steven Wright (3-0) LP: Randy Newsom (2-1) ATT: 5,321
ALTOONA, Pa - Altoona held a 2-0 lead since the bottom of the second, but Akron stormed back to grab four runs in the top of the fifth and a four-spot in the top of the sixth to defeat Altoona and grab four of five games in the series and a sweep of the doubleheader at Blair County Ballpark on Sunday. The Aeros grabbed the nightcap by the final tally of 9-2.
Altoona's Jonel Pacheco had a 5-for-7 afternoon but it wasn't enough. Starter Yoslan Herrera lasted 4.0 innings before righty Randy Newsom, just recently acquired from the Cleveland Indians came in and gave up three runs and was hung with the loss.
The Curve will have an off day on Monday before they resume play on Tuesday night at Bowie, MD when they take on the Baysox. The Curve will return home on Friday at Blair County Ballpark to open an eight-game home stand.
