Albany Devils News Release

PORTLAND, MAINE - The Portland Pirates earned their league-best 25th point of the season with a 5-2 victory against the Albany Devils Saturday night at the Cumberland County Civic Center. Matt Anderson and Nathan Perkovich scored for the Devils, who are now 6-8-0-0. The Pirates remain in first place in the Eastern Conference with a 12-3-1-0 record.

The Devils were trying to stop a four-game skid and appeared to get off to the right start when Anderson netted his sixth goal of the season off a rebound try at 3:13 of the first. Brad Mills was denied on a breakaway and Louis Robitaille failed to net the follow up. Anderson had the third whack at it and earned his fifth goal in six games.

Dennis McCauley evened things at 1-1 at 11:10 of the first period after he returned to the ice after serving five minutes for dropping the gloves with Myles Stoesz.

Moments after McCauley's tally, Paul Byron grabbed the only lead Portland would need on the power-play at 15:03.

After Travis Tumbull made it 3-1 at 18:04 of the second, Mark Parrish netted a power-play goal just as a 5-on-3 opportunity ended at 5:14 of the third.

Perkovich found the net for his fourth goal of the season from David McIntyre and Dan Kelly midway through the final frame at 10:28.

It was too little too late and the Pirates added to their lead with another power-play tally this time off the stick of Marc-Andre Gragnani at 14:34.

Mike McKenna suffered the loss in his first game since being returned on loan from New Jersey. He made 27 stops. At the other end, Jhonas Enroth denied 22 shots.

The Devils return home on Tuesday, Nov. 16 for a 7 p.m. contest against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, which is currently in first in the East Division.
