
P-Bruins Defeat Monarchs 3-1

Manchester, NH - The Providence Bruins defeated the Manchester Monarchs 3-1 Saturday evening at the Verizon Wireless Arena to move back to .500 on the season. Yury Alexandrov, Levi Nelson and Matt Bartkowski scored the P-Bruins goals. Providence is back in action at the Dunkin' Donuts Center Sunday at 4:05 p.m. for Thundersticks Night against the Abbotsford Heat.
Providence notched two goals within a minute of each other in the first. Alexandrov tallied his fourth goal of the year at the 3:19 mark. Kirk MacDonald set him up nicely with a great pass in traffic. Jamie Arniel picked up the second assist.
Just 50 seconds later, Nelson grabbed his third goal of the season with a wrister that beat Manchester goalie Martin Jones, making it 2-0 P-Bruins. Wyatt Smith got the lone assist on the play. The P-Bruins led 2-0 going into the first intermission.
The second period was one of many chances for both teams, and the Bruins were able to capitalize. Bartkowski netted his second goal of the season, while on the power play at the 6:58 mark. Arniel and Zach Hamill were credited with the assists. The P-Bruins led 3-0 going into the second intermission.
Manchester got on the board early in the third period. At the 28 second mark, Viatcheslav Voynov scored after weaving through the crease and a pair of P-Bruins defenders. Even with a minute of 5-on-3 play in the third though, the Monarchs could not get within a goal as Providence went onto the 3-1 victory.
Michael Hutchinson finished the night with 24 saves for the P-Bruins, notching his third win of the season. Jones blocked 30 shots in the loss for Manchester. Providence finished the night 1-for-6 on the power play and a perfect 6-for-6 on the penalty kill.
The P-Bruins head back home to face the Heat again on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. for Thundersticks Night. Next Friday, they host Dunkin Donuts Mug Night and take on the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 7:05 p.m.
