First Family Sunday Crowd Sees Dogs Nearly Complete Comeback

Rosemont, Ill. - The Chicago Dogs produced their highest run output of the year but couldn't complete the comeback on the first Family Sunday ever at Impact Field, falling to the Kansas City T-Bones for the third consecutive day, 8-6.
After falling behind 4-1 heading to the bottom of the seventh inning, Chicago tied the game on a three-run, opposite field home run from Kyle Gaedele. The dinger was the first Dogs homer this season to come with multiple men on base. However, Kansas City struck back with two runs apiece in their half of the eighth and ninth to salt away the series sweep.
Each of the game's final seven half-innings saw runs scored after a fairly slow start to the game offensively. After falling behind again in the eighth inning, the Dogs mounted another rally in the home half of the frame, scoring once on the strength of two walks, a hit-by-pitch, and a sacrifice fly from Wilfredo Rodriguez. The Dogs left two men stranded in the inning, which yielded no Chicago hits.
After Keith Curio hit a two run home run for Kansas City in the top of the ninth to stretch the T-Bones lead back to three runs at 8-5, Chicago again mounted a rally in the bottom of the frame. The Dogs loaded the bases with one out and then Matt Telesco scored on an infield single from Treysen Vavra. With the bases still loaded, Craig Maddox popped out and Rodriguez grounded out to end the game.
Curcio's home run was the second of the game and sixth of the series for Kansas City, who entered the series with just two home runs as a team through their first six games. In total seven of the 11 T-Bone's hits went for extra bases, the most extra-base hits allowed by the Chicago staff in a game this season. Seven of the eight Chicago hits were singles.
Vavra finished the game 3-3 with two runs driven in to extend his hitting streak to start the year to nine games.
Kansas City starter, Tommy Collier went seven innings and collected the win for the T-Bones, despite coughing up the lead on the Gaedele homer in his final frame of the afternoon.
Brandon Shimo, Miles Moeller, and Taylor Grover each allowed two runs in relief for Chicago, with Moeller suffering the loss.
The loss was the seventh consecutive defeat for Chicago as they fall to 1-8 on the season. Kansas moves to 6-3 with the win.
Chicago now heads to Gary, Ind. for a four-game set with the Gary SouthShore RailCats beginning on Monday. Memorial Day first pitch Monday is scheduled for 4:10 p.m. with Michael Wagner making his first start of the year for the Dogs, and Alex Gunn getting the nod for Gary.
