Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill. - Thanks to another excellent start by Pedro Figueroa and two RBIs from Jason Christian, the Kane County Cougars held off the Peoria Chiefs, 3-2, Wednesday afternoon in front of 7,241 fans at Elfstrom Stadium. The Cougars have won three straight and have matched their season-high for games over .500 at 14. They are also 7-2 this season against Peoria.
Figueroa (9-2) notched his sixth straight quality start and fifth straight win. He gave up two unearned runs in the seventh inning for his only blemishes, scattering seven hits, walking none and fanning six. He has given up zero earned runs in four of his last five outings.
Christian singled home Dusty Coleman in the first against Justin Bristow (3-4) and then drove in David Thomas in the third with a single. On the same play Coleman scampered home on an error to put the Cougars ahead, 3-0. Trey Barham pitched the eighth for the Cougars, and Justin Murray handled the ninth for his third save.
The Cougars (4-2, 45-31) and Chiefs (1-5, 39-36) play Game 3 of the four-game series Thursday night at 6:30 CDT. Anthony Capra (2-5, 3.87) will face Chris Archer (2-2, 2.19).
