
Carvajal's Single Pushes TinCaps to 8-6 Win

Dayton, OH - In a game that featured 19 walks, the Fort Wayne TinCaps defeated the Dayton Dragons, 8-6, Wednesday at Fifth Third Field. Yefri Carvajal broke a 6-6 tie with a two-run single in the top of the 9th and Brad Brach nailed down his 18th save.
Allan Dykstra ripped a leadoff home run in the top of the 2nd inning to open the scoring. Later in the frame, Blake Tekotte took a bases-loaded walk and Drew Cumberland followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 3-0.
Dayton plated a run in the bottom of the 3rd, but the TinCaps rebounded with a run in the 4th on Tekotte's RBI single to make it 4-1. In the 5th, Dykstra doubled down the right-field line and scored two batters later on Carvajal's triple to push it to 5-1.
In the bottom of the 6th, Dayton's Cody Puckett blasted a two-run homer and Miguel Rojas doubled home a run to make it a 5-4 game. In the top of the 8th, Dayton RHP Junior Martinez issued back-to-back walks and Tekotte followed with an RBI single to give the TinCaps some breathing room at 6-4.
The Dragons tied the game in the bottom of the 8th thanks to more wildness. Carlos Mendez and Puckett drew bases-loaded walks to tie the game at 6-6.
The TinCaps retook the lead in the top of the 9th. Martinez walked Justin Baum and Dykstra with one out. RHP Scott Gaffney was summoned from the bullpen and allowed a single to Cole Figueroa to load the bases. Carvajal followed with a two-run single to leftcenter to give Fort Wayne an 8-6 lead. Brach entered in the bottom of the 9th and worked a scoreless inning to snag the save.
LHP Zach Herr (5-2) grabbed the win despite allowing two runs in the 8th inning; Martinez was saddled with the loss to fall to 2-1. The TinCaps jumped to 50-26 overall, 5-1 in the second half. They are now 12-1 against the Dragons this season. Dayton dipped to 31-45, 3-3 in the half.
Fort Wayne and the Dragons (Class-A Cincinnati Reds) continue the four-game series Thursday at 7:00pm. Fort Wayne RHP Stiven Osuna (3-6) starts on the mound against Dragons RHP Lance Janke (4-3).
