Chiefs Fall 3-2 Wednesday at Kane County

Geneva, IL -The Peoria Chiefs began the month of July with their second loss in a row, falling 3-2 loss to the Kane County Cougars on Wednesday afternoon. The Chiefs are now 1-5 on the second half and 39-36 on the regular season.

Kane County took the lead early in their half of the first inning. With one out, Dusty Coleman reached second on a two-base fielding error by second baseman D.J. Fitzgerald. Jason Christian singled to score Coleman and was thrown out at second trying to stretch it into a double but the Cougars took the lead 1-0 after one inning.

The Cougars tacked on two more runs in the third against Chiefs starter Justin Bristow. With one down, David Thomas began the rally with a single to right and reached second with a walk issued to Coleman. With Christian batting, both runners stole their selective bases to put them on second and third.

Christian singled to plate Thomas and Coleman to give Kane County a 3-0 advantage.

The Chiefs finally got to Cougars starter Pedro Figueroa in the seventh inning to cut into the Cougars lead. With one out in the frame, Mario Mercedes reached on a fielding error by Carlos Arrieche and advanced to second on a single by Junior Lake. With a second out in the inning, Jose Made hit his first triple as a Chief to score Mercedes and Lake and give the Chiefs life with a 3-2 score.

With two outs and no one on base in the ninth, the Chiefs called on Kyler Burke to pinch-hit for the newcomer Fitzgerald. Burke walked to represent the tying run and Made, with two hits and two RBI on the day, ripped a single to left to put the tying run in scoring position with Josh Harrison up to bat.

Unfortunately, Harrison popped one up to right on a 1-0 count flag down by Jeremy Barfield in foul territory to end the game.

Bristow gave up three runs, two earned, on four hits in his three innings of work. The right-hander walked two while striking out one.

Chris Siegfried threw three spotless innings not allowing a hit while walking two. Ryan Buchter continued relief duties without giving up a hit while walking two and striking out four in his two innings of work.

Casey's General Store Player of the Game - Jose Made (3B) - Made took over third-base duties for the day and went 3-for-4 including his first triple as a Chief and had the only RBI for Peoria with two.Notes...Josh Harrison's hit streak continues at seven games...Peoria has lost five straight games at Elfstrom Stadium...Perez struck out three times for the sixth time this season...Lake has struck out at least once in 18 straight starts...The Chiefs have lost two-straight one-run games and are now 15-15 on the season in one-run games...Peoria is now 12-8 in day games...Figuora beat the Chiefs for the second time this season...He threw seven shutout innings without giving up only four hits while striking out six and walking one on June 7...The Chiefs are 2-7 against Kane County this season and 1-5 at Elfstrom Stadium...The four-game series continues on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. when the Chiefs send RH Chris Archer (2-2, 2.19) to the hill against LH Anthony Capra (2-5, 3.87)...The broadcast can be heard live beginning with the pregame show at 6:15 p.m. on 96.5 FM ESPN Radio and www.peoriachiefs.com.
