
Fightin Phils Lose on Education Day

Reading Fightin Phils News Release
The Reading Fightin Phils lost to the Trenton Thunder on Education Day at FirstEnergy Stadium by a score of 12-2. Perci Garner (4-3) struggled as he allowed six runs through 2 1/3 innings. Reading is now 29-22 on the season.
Perci Garner struggled out of the gate as he allowed four runs in the top of the first inning to fall behind 4-0. Peter O'Brien hit a RBI single with the bases loaded followed by Taylor Dugas walking in a run. Dan Fiorito grounded into a fielder's choice scored the third run of the inning with an error by Carlos Alonso allowing the fourth run to score.
Trenton added two more runs off Garner in the top of the third inning as Ali Castillo hit a two-RBI single to give the Thunder a 6-0 lead. Reading got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning as Cameron Perkins hit a RBI double to score Brock Stassi and cut into the Thunder's lead 6-1. The double by Perkins was his 19th of the season. Rob Refsnyder hit a solo home run off Ryan O'Sullivan in the top of the fifth inning to give Trenton a 7-1 lead.
The Thunder scored five more runs off Fightins reliever Jay Johnson in the top of the sixth inning to take a 12-1 lead. Carlos Alonso scored on a wild pitch from Eric Wooten in the bottom of the eighth to bring the Fightins within ten runs, 12-2.
Kyle Simon pitched two scoreless innings in relief. Mike Nesseth tossed a scoreless top of the ninth inning.
The Fightin Phils head on the road as they will play the Erie SeaWolves beginning on Friday night at Jerry Uht Park in Erie, Pa. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
