New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT- The New Britain Rock Cats Baseball Club, the Double-A Eastern League Affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, has announced it will hold a special Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) night on Friday, May 30 (6:35 PM) at New Britain Stadium. The Rock Cats game against the Binghamton Mets will be stopped in the middle of the 4th inning for an on-field presentation in which all players from both clubs will line up on the foul lines and hold signs with handwritten names of loved ones affected by cancer. Managers, coaches and umpires will do the same and all fans will receive a placard as they enter the ballpark to participate as well. The Rock Cats are the first minor league team in the country to hold a Stand Up To Cancer night and got approval from Major League Baseball and the Eastern League to halt the game and show support.

"We are thrilled to team up with Major League Baseball for this wonderful event on Friday night to support Stand Up To Cancer," Rock Cats General Manager Tim Restall said. "Cancer is something that has affected so many people and we want to show our support by stopping the game and allowing everyone at the ballpark to share their personal stories."

The Rock Cats parent club, the Minnesota Twins, was the first Major League club to hold up a Stand Up To Cancer game this season. The Twins had special Stand Up To Cancer shirts made in spring training to support General Manager Terry Ryan, who was diagnosed with cancer this past winter.

"We are thrilled to see the Rock Cats taking the lead in holding the first ever Minor League Baseball SU2C placard moment. We at Stand Up To Cancer are proud of our history with Major League Baseball and are excited to be working with Minor League Baseball teams like the Rock Cats who have given us the opportunity to expand our reach even further among baseball fans," commented Sue Schwartz, Co-Founder, Stand Up To Cancer

Major League Baseball has played an invaluable role in supporting Stand Up To Cancer's innovative cancer research. Many witnessed Game 4 of the 2013 World Series, when players, coaches, management, umpires, press and fans in the stadium created placards declaring who they stand up for. Over $260 million dollars has been pledged to SU2C since 2008.
