LAST GAME: The Binghamton Mets defeated the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in the resumption of a suspended game, 7-5, before dropping their regularly-scheduled game by a 5-2 final on Wednesday night. Kevin Plawecki drove in a career-high five runs to lead the way in the opener. He doubled home two runs and threaded a three-run homer inside the right-field foul pole. Tyler Pill allowed five runs over four innings and earned the win in the resumed game. Casey Lawrence allowed two unearned runs on four hits over five innings to collect the win in the nightcap. Binghamton's offense was limited to an RBI triple by Kyle Johnson and a run-producing double from Matt Clark. Rainy Lara took the loss and was removed due to injury in the third inning.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Hansel Robles takes the mound for his ninth start of the season and faces New Hampshire for the third time this year. Robles took a no-decision in his most recent start versus the Rock Cats on Saturday, May 24. He allowed six runs on seven hits over 5.2 innings. Robles has gone 1-1 with a 4.35 ERA in games against the Fisher Cats. They have hit .268 against the righty. He was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Mets in August 2008.
NEW HAMPSHIRE STARTER: RHP Aaron Sanchez takes the mound for his 12th start of the year and third versus Binghamton. Sanchez failed to record an out in his last start against Portland on Saturday, May 24. He walked four and hit a batter before getting replaced in the first inning. All six runners that reached against him came home. The California native is 0-1 with a 2.79 ERA against the B-Mets this season. He's struck out ten and walked six over 9.2 innings.
FIRST "MAY"TE OF THE U.S.S. B-METS: B-Mets catcher Kevin Plawecki has steered the ship against Eastern League pitching in the month of May. The Indiana native has batted .396 with ten doubles, five home runs, 27 RBI and 13 multiple-hit games. Over 22 games, he's compiled a .670 slugging percentage and hit safely in all but three contests. He drove in a career-high five runs on Wednesday.
HOME SWEET HOME: Despite falling in Wednesday's regularly-scheduled game, the B-Mets lead the league in home victories with a 19-10 record at NYSEG Stadium. Wednesday's loss snapped a seven-game home winning streak. They've won nine of their last 11 at home.
RISE AND SHINE: Today marks Binghamton's second morning game of the season. The B-Mets beat the Fisher Cats, 6-0, on May 7 behind Greg Peavey's complete-game, two-hitter in their only other morning game.
A FIXTURE UP TOP: B-Mets outfielder Kyle Johnson has hit in the leadoff position in each of the last eight games. He has reached base and scored in the first inning in three of the last four games. Johnson has hit safely in 18 of his last 20 and has compiled a .356 batting average in 20 games in May.
BOSSES IN THE BULLPEN: Excluding Tyler Pill"s relief appearance yesterday, the B-Mets bullpen has compiled a 2.44 ERA in the last 20 games. During that span, they've struck out 67 and walked only 18 over 62.2 innings.
SERIES FINALE: Excluding their one-game series against the Sea Dogs in April, the B-Mets have gone 11-3 in series finales this season, including a win to cap a four-game sweep of the Rock Cats on Monday.
RUBBER MATCH: The B-Mets are 3-0 in rubber matches this season, most recently beating the Altoona Curve on May 15 in the series-deciding game. Binghamton has won seven series this season.
NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets hit the road for a three-game series against the New Britain Rock Cats starting Friday night at 6:50 PM.
