New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Newcomer Hector Gimenez hit his first home run in the Blue Jays organization, spotting the Fisher Cats (18-35) an early lead on Thursday afternoon. But the Binghamton Mets (30-22) came storming back to grab a 7-2 victory and a two-games-to-one series win at NYSEG Stadium.

Gimenez struck in the second inning as the lead-off hitter against Mets starter Hansel Robles (W; 3-2). He launched a fastball off the video board in right field to put New Hampshire on top 1-0. It was his second hit, and his first homer, since joining the Fisher Cats on Tuesday.

The Fisher Cats had a chance to add to their lead in the third and fourth innings, but couldn't take advantage. They loaded them up with one out in the third, but Robles stranded the runners. In the fourth, Matt Newman doubled with one out, but he was stranded when Jack Murphy and Jorge Flores both popped out to end that threat.

With Robles skating by, the Mets finally got to Aaron Sanchez (L; 1-4) in the fourth. A pair of infield singles led to a wild pitch and a run that tied the game at 1-1. Matt Clark then followed with an RBI double to left field to put the Mets ahead 2-1. Clark came in later in the inning on a two-out double by Travis Taijeron for a 3-1 Mets advantage.

Sanchez allowed another pair of runs in the fifth, the first scoring on a Darrell Ceciliani double. With two outs, Clark did it again with a single to right to push Ceciliani across for the Mets fifth run of the day.

Sanchez would pitch into the seventh, a drastic improvement of his last start on Saturday where he failed out retire a batter in the first inning. He gave up season highs with six runs and nine hits, but walked just three. He left the game after a walk to begin the seventh. That runner eventually scored when Austin Bibens-Dirkx allowed a two-run homer to Brian Burgamy to push the Mets lead to 7-1.

The Fisher Cats made a hail mary attempt at a comeback in the ninth, loading the bases with one out. They could only muster an RBI groundout from new outfielder Melky Mesa, which capped the scoring at 7-2. They would finish the game 1-12 with runners in scoring position, and they stranded 10 runners on the day.

The Fisher Cats now head west for their first series with a Western Division opponent starting Friday night in Altoona, Pa. RHP Radhames Liz (0-0, 0.00) makes is scheduled to make his second start for New Hampshire against Altoona righty Adrian Sampson (3-3, 2.26). First pitch is at 6:30 p.m. Radio coverage begins at 6:15 p.m. with Tom Gauthier on WGIR 610 AM and www.nhfishercats.com .
