Akron RubberDucks News Release
(Bowie, Md.) The Akron RubberDucks registered season-high totals with 16 runs and 17 hits Thursday night, as they cruised to a 16-4 win over the Bowie Baysox at Prince George's Stadium.
Tyler Naquin was 4-6, with an RBI and two runs scored, while Bryan LaHair and Bryson Myles each finished with four RBI. Myles clubbed a solo homer in the second inning, his third of the year.
After falling behind 2-1, the RubberDucks (33-20) broke the game open in the fourth by sending 11 batters to the plate and scoring seven runs to take an 8-2 lead. Jordan Smith stroked a key, two-run double down the left field line to give Akron the lead, 3-2. LaHair later added a three-run double. Bowie starter Zach Davies (1-2) left after allowing three runs in 3 1/3 innings.
Control problems persisted for the Baysox relief corps, as the RubberDucks took advantage of 12 walks, including back- to-back-to-back bases-loaded walks in a six-run eighth inning. Myles added a two-run double in the eighth, his third hit of the night.
Righthander Duke von Schamann (2-0) worked six innings for Akron, giving up three runs. The win allowed the RubberDucks to move four games ahead of the second-place Baysox (29-24) in the EL West.
The RubberDucks will now return to Canal Park for a three-game series against the Harrisburg Senators (Nationals) beginning on Friday evening at 6:35. LHP Shawn Morimando (NR) will be called up from Class-A Carolina and make his Double-A debut for the RubberDucks, while RHP Brad Meyers (1-2, 4.86) is the expected starter for Harrisburg. The game will be broadcast on www.AkronRubberDucks.com.
