Kane County Cougars News Release

Beloit, WI - The Kane County Cougars enjoyed a 3-0 lead over the Beloit Snappers heading to the bottom of the fifth inning Tuesday night at Pohlman Field, before the Snappers rallied for five runs and eventually beat the Cougars, 5-4. Four different Kane County players had two hits each, but the fifth frame proved to be too much to overcome.

Jose Pineda provided Cougars starter Jared Lansford with a 1-0 lead in the fourth when he belted a home run off Snappers hurler Adam Hawes. Isaac Omura moved his hitting streak to six consecutive games with a run-scoring hit in the fifth to score Nick Blasi, and Chad Boyd posted his first RBI as a Cougar with a double later in the frame for a 3-0 advantage.

All of Lansford's trouble arrived in the fifth, the only inning that has plagued him this season. Beloit scored five times on two walks and five hits for a 5-3 tilt that forced the Cougars' pitcher from the game. Jeff Gray entered and worked three scoreless relief innings to keep the contest close.

Omura delivered a sacrifice fly in the sixth to bring home Frank Martinez and and make it 5-4, but the Cougars couldn't get closer. Hawes (2-2) snagged the win, Lansford (6-5) took the loss and Frank Mata saved his third game for Beloit.

The Cougars (4-2) send Joe Piekarz (3-1, 1.95) to the mound Wednesday night in the third game of the series, and the Snappers (3-3) will counter with southpaw Alexander Smit (2-1, 4.19). The first pitch is set for 7 CDT.
