Fort Wayne, IN . - For the second consecutive night, the Fort Wayne Wizards were the beneficiary of a big inning as they defeated the Lansing Lugnuts 14-6 on Tuesday evening before 1,995 fans at Memorial Stadium. The Wizards plated six runs in the seventh to take the lead for good.
The game was tied 6-6 in the seventh before Fort Wayne put six runs on the board. The Wizards did it on just four hits and were helped out by three Lansing errors in the frame.
Matt Bush had an RBI double to make the score 7-6. Mike Sansoe then reached with the bases loaded on an error by Anthony Hatch. The error allowed two runs to score to make it a 9-6 game. After a Brian Bormaster error loaded the bases again, Will Venable smacked an RBI single to push the lead to 10-6. Nick Hundley's two run double ended the barrage as the Wizards took a 12-6 advantage.
Lansing fell behind in the first inning when Seth Johnston homered over the left field wall to make it a 2-0 game.
After knotting the score at 2-2 in the fourth, the Lugnuts had four batters cross the plate in the fifth to take a 6-3 lead. Jacob Butler, Yuber Rodriguez, and Sean Shoffit all had RBI singles in the frame. Shoffit finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Fort Wayne tied the score in the bottom of the inning. Kyle Blanks crushed a two run homer to cut the lead to 6-5. Hundley then singled and scored on an Matt Bush single to tie the game at 6-6.
Po-Hsuan Keng (0-3) suffered the loss for Lansing, throwing two innings and allowing nine runs on six hits. Only three of the runs were earned.
Nathan Staggs (3-1) got the win for the Wizards after tossing 3 2/3 innings and surrendering just three hits.
Lansing (42-31, 2-4) and Fort Wayne (35-38, 4-2) will finish the series on Wednesday afternoon. Kristian Bell (6-4, 3.78) will take the ball for the Lugnuts, while Stevie Delabar (5-5, 2.93) will get the nod for the Wizards. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
