
Big inning lifts Snappers

Jose Pineda led off the fourth inning with a solo home run to left off starting pitcher Adam Hawes, giving Kane County a 1-0 lead. The Cougars added two more runs in the fifth inning on four hits, pushing the advantage to 3-0. The Snappers sent nine batters to the plate in the bottom of the fifth. Jose Leger and Toby Gardenhire started the inning by drawing walks. Tarrence Patterson pounded an infield single into the ground that stayed fair, loading the bases. Drew Thompson followed Patterson with a single to center, scoring Leger to cut the lead 3-1. Paul Kelly then singled, scoring Gardenhire and Patterson, tying the game 3-3. After a Cougars pitching change, Erik Lis singled to left to score Thompson and give Beloit their first lead of the night at 4-3. Dwayne White drove in the fifth and final run of the inning to push the Snappers lead to 5-3. The Cougars cut the lead to 5-4 with a sacrifice fly in the sixth. Danny Vais held the Cougars scoreless from there. Frank Mata worked a scoreless ninth for his third save. Hawes earned the win, improving to 2-2 on the season. Thompson, Kelly and Lis were all two for four at the plate. Kelly drove in two runs, while Thompson and Lis each drove in one.
Upcoming Schedule: The Snappers and Cougars play the final game of this three game series Wednesday, June 28 at Pohlman Field. First pitch is set for 7:00 pm. Beloit will travel to Kane County for a two game series June 29-30. The Snappers and Cougars return to Beloit for a two game series Friday, July 1 and Saturday, July 2.
