Springfield Falcons News Release
Springfield, Mass. - The Springfield Falcons surpassed the Albany Devils, 4-2, today at the MassMutual Center.
The Falcons advance to 30-19-6-0 with 66 points and hold a 3-1-2-0 record in the eight-game season series with the Devils.
Falcons goaltender Scott Munroe registered his fifth win with Springfield, shutting the door on 39 of 41 shots. Devils goaltender Scott Clemmensen stopped 17 of 21 in defeat. Special teams helped lead the Falcons to victory, with the team converting on three-of-seven power play opportunities and killing seven-of-nine Devils man-advantages.
The Falcons were quick to get on the board, notching a goal just 42 seconds after puck drop. Thomas Larkin powered a wrist shot from the high slot for his fifth tally of the season. Brian Gibbons and Adam Cracknell picked up points for the assists.
Springfield took a 2-0 lead for the first time since Dec. 13 during the final minute of a double minor attempted spearing call on Mike Sislo. T.J. Tynan fired a pass from the right circle that was redirected past Clemmensen by Sean Collins at the 10:59 mark for his second goal of this home three-in-three. Jaime Sifers earned credit for the secondary assist.
With a five-on-three man-advantage, the Falcons built up a three-goal lead at the 4:18 mark of the second period. After a series of shots on goal, a rebound came out to Gibbons at the bottom of the right circle. The goal marked Gibbon's second point of the contest and his second tally with the Falcons this season. Austin Madaisky recorded the primary assist, while Collins earned his fourth multi-point game of the season with the secondary helper.
The Devils were finally able to get past Munroe with 5:05 remaining in the third period. While on the power play, Raman Hrabarenka deflected a bouncing puck, shot by Seth Helgeson, into the net. Albany stole another one back 1:16 later when Kelly Zajac sent home the rebound of Joe Whitney's shot from the left circle.
Gibbons notched his second of the game with 2:08 remaining in the third to secure a 4-2 victory for the Falcons. Gibbons redirected Madaisky's shot from the right point for the team's third power-play goal of the game. Madaisky picked up his 10th multi-point game on the play.
The Falcons are back in action on Friday, Feb. 27 when the team hosts the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 7 p.m.
