
Falcons Host The Monarchs Tonight

The Springfield Falcons and Manchester Monarchs meet for the third time this season and this will be the Monarchs second visit to the MassMutual Center this year. The Falcons are 2-0 against the Monarchs this season most recently beating Manchester by a score of 3-2 back on December 6. Ryan Potulny netted a pair of goals in that win earning the game's first star, while goaltender Devan Dubnyk stopped 23 of 25 shots in the victory.
Viacheslav Trukhno leads the Falcons in scoring against the Monarchs this year with two goals and one assist in three games. Ryan Potulny and Tim Sestito are both tied with Trukhno for the team lead in goals against Manchester this campaign with two each, while Guillaume Lefebvre and Mathieu Roy each have two assists against the Monarchs this year. Goaltender Devan Dubnyk has played in both games against Manchester and has posted a 1.51 goals against average and .948 save percentage.
Manchester's Marty Murray (1g, 1a) and Bud Holloway (0g, 2a) lead the Monarchs in scoring against the Falcons with two points each. Goaltender Jonathan Bernier has been between the pipes for Manchester in both games against Springfield recording a 3.53 goals against average and .870 save percentage.
The Falcons start a very busy stretch of games tonight as they play three games in three days this weekend. Springfield will host the Hartford Wolf Pack for the first time this season on Saturday night before heading to Manchester for a Sunday afternoon 4 pm matinee. The Falcons currently have a record of 12-14-3-1 good for 28 points and a fifth-place tie with Manchester in the Atlantic Division. The Falcons remain only four points behind the fourth-place Worcester Sharks, six points behind third-place Hartford.
Manchester enters Friday's game looking to snap a four-game losing streak in their second trip to Springfield this year. The Monarchs have a mark of 12-14-0-4 and they will also play three games in three days this weekend. After tonight's contest, Manchester heads home to host the Portland Pirates on Saturday and Springfield on Sunday.
FALCONS PLAYER NOTES:
- Falcons forward Gilbert Brule returned to the Falcons' lineup on December 21 at Providence after missing a total of eight games; four games due to recall to the Edmonton Oilers and another four games due to an AHL suspension. Brule remains tied with Derek Bekar for second on the team in goals with eight.
- Falcons leading scorer Ryan Potulny returns to Springfield's lineup tonight after missing three games last weekend due to personal reasons. Potulny leads Springfield with 15 goals and 25 points this year.
- Rookie defenseman Taylor Chorney scored his first AHL goal on December 20 against the Toronto Marlies. Chorney has one goal and seven assists for eight points in 29 games this year.
- Rob Schremp has recorded at least a point in two of his three games since being reassigned to the Falcons by the Oilers on December 15. Schremp continues to lead the Falcons with 18 assists.
MONARCHS PLAYER NOTES:
Gabe Gauthier is currently the Monarchs active leader in scoring with both Teddy Purcell and Trevor Lewis on recall to the National Hockey League's Los Angeles Kings. Gauthier has three goals and 16 assists for 19 points in 25 games this year.
David Meckler is currently Manchester's active leader in goals with seven markers on the campaign. Meckler has seven goals and four assists for 11 points in 29 games.
