Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill.- Four different defensemen recorded points and all six goals came from a different shooter as the Rockford IceHogs iced the Chicago Wolves 6-2 at the Rockford MetroCentre.
Defenseman Jimmy Sharrow punched in his first goal in an IceHogs uniform just 23 seconds into the game at the Rockford MetroCentre to start the scoring. The slap shot from the point came with assists from Jordan Hendry and Jack Skille.
But Chicago's Brett Sterling tied the game at one with a power-play marker at 8:47 in the first period. Helpers came from Joe Motzko and Jeff Hamilton.
Then Nathan Davis slipped the puck under Ondrej Pavelec at 17:09 to give the IceHogs the advantage again. Assists came from Dan Bertram and Andrew Archer.
In the second frame, Danny Groulx put a lamp-lighter over Pavelec's left shoulder on the power play at 10:07 with assists from Archer and Pascal Pelletier.
Joe Motzko came right back and scored his 19th goal of the season at seventh against the IceHogs in five games at 11:13 with assists from Steve Martins and Grant Lewis.
Evan Brophey poked in a lose puck in front of the net on a power play to give Rockford an insurance goal at 8:33 in the third. Tim Brent and Danny Groulx were credited with the assists.
Then Brent let an unassisted empty-net goal fly at 17:51 and Mike Radja put the final dagger in at 18:37 with assists from Petri Kontiola and Skille.
Corey Crawford finished with 30 saves in the win, while Pavelec had 16 saves. It is the most goals that the league's top goaltender has allowed all season. Chicago's power play was 1-for-5, while Rockford finished 2-for-6 on the advantage.
It is the first time since Nov. 26 that the IceHogs have scored two power-play goals in a game. In the last 10 games, the Hogs have recorded four man advantage markers.
Next Home Game: Monday, Dec. 29 vs. Iowa Chops. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. The Chops return to the MetroCentre to wrap up the back-end of a home-and-home series. WIFR-TV channel 23 has bought your ticket to the game. Go to www.wifr.com to print off a voucher good for two tickets to the IceHogs-Chops contest on Monday as WIFR has bought the house.
