
Falcons Host Senators Tonight

The Springfield Falcons and Binghamton Senators will meet for the only time in Springfield this season on Tuesday night at the MassMutual Center. Tonight's game was originally scheduled to be played on October 30, but was re-scheduled to December 11. Tonight is the 17th all-time meeting between the Falcons and Senators with Springfield posting a record of 6-9-1 through the first 16 contests.
The Falcons head into tonight's game having defeated the Lowell Devils by a score of 5-2 this past Saturday night. Springfield's Ben Simon earned the first star with one goal and two assists, while Rob Schremp also added one goal and one assist in the win. Defenseman Mathieu Roy scored his first goal in a Falcons uniform on Saturday, while also chipping in with two assists. Rookie Colin McDonald scored his sixth goal of the season against Lowell, while goaltender Jeff Deslauriers stopped 32 of 34 shots on goal in collecting his league-leading 12th win of the season. Springfield remains in third place in the Atlantic Division with a record of 14-9-1-3 good for 32 points. The Falcons continue their four-game homestand tonight having split the first two games last weekend. Springfield will host the Houston Aeros on Friday before heading to Portland, Maine to take on the Pirates on Saturday and Sunday at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
The Senators head into Springfield having won their last game played at Rochester by a score of 4-3 this past Sunday afternoon. Binghamton built a 4-1 lead through two periods led by a pair of goals from John Hennessy. Goaltender Brian Elliott earned the win stopping 25 of 28 shots on goal. The Senators currently have a record of 12-9-3-1 good for 28 points and a third place tie with the Hershey Bears in the East Division. Binghamton concludes a four-game road trip tonight in Springfield that has seen them post a record of 1-1-1-0 through the first three games with stops in Hamilton, Toronto and Rochester. Following Tuesday's contest, Binghamton returns home to host Syracuse on Friday.
FALCONS NOTES: Veteran forward Ben Simon led the attack for Springfield on Saturday, December 8 collecting one goal and two assists earning the game's first star in a 5-2 win over the Lowell Devils....Jean-Francois Jacques scored three goals in three games last week improving his season totals to eight, good for second on the team in that category, only behind Patrick Thoresen's 12 markers. Thoresen remains on recall to the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers....Forward Rob Schremp earned the game's second star on Saturday, December 8 collecting one goal and one assist. Schremp continues to lead the Falcons in scoring with six goals and 20 assists for 26 points in 25 games. Schremp has registered at least a point in 10 of his last 11 games totaling three goals and 12 assists for 15 points in that span....Center Marc Pouliot collected three assists in three games last week. Pouliot has collected at least a point in four of his last six games totaling two goals and four assists for six points in that span....Defenseman Mathieu Roy scored his first goal as a member of the Falcons and added two assists on Saturday, December 8 against the Lowell Devils. Roy has one goal and three assists for four points in his last two games....Fredrik Johansson earned his first multi-goal game of the year on Wednesday, December 5 at Lowell scoring two goals in a 4-2 Springfield win....Captain Rick Berry played in his 400th career AHL game on Friday, December 7....T.J. Kemp is expected to play in his 100th career AHL game on Tuesday, December 11....Mathieu Roy's next game played will be 200 for his pro career....Both goaltenders were strong for Springfield once again this past week. Devan Dubnyk stopped 42 of 44 shots on December 5 in a 4-2 win at Lowell. Jeff Deslauriers earned his league-leading 12th win of the season on Saturday, December 8 stopping 32 of 34 shots on goal.
A PAIR OF LEAGUE LEADERS: Binghamton goaltender Jeff Glass enters tonight's game ranked second in the league in goals against average at 2.02 and second in save percentage at .934. Glass was named the Rbk X-Pulse/AHL Goaltender of the Month for November. In nine appearances, Glass was 6-2-1 with a 1.77 goals-against average, a .943 save percentage and two shutouts. Glass began the month by making 35 saves on Nov. 2 in a 5-2 win vs. Bridgeport. One day before his 22nd birthday, he posted his first shutout of the season on Nov. 18, turning aside 28 shots in a 3-0 victory at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Glass then returned to the Wachovia Arena and stopped 36 of 37 shots in a 3-1 win over the Penguins on Nov. 23, and finished out November with a 30-save shutout of Bridgeport on Nov. 30.
Binghamton forward Denis Hamel currently leads the league in goals with 16, including six power play markers. The 30-year-old native of Lachute, Quebec spent the 2006-07 campaign in the National Hockey League spending time in Ottawa, Atlanta and Philadelphia playing a total of 53 games collecting five goals and three assists for eight points. In 2005-06, Hamel set a new Binghamton Senators team record with 56 goals and was also tied with Donald MacLean for the league lead in markers that same season. Hamel was originally drafted by the St. Louis Blues in the 6th round (153rd overall) in 1995.
