Avon, OH - All-Star left-hander Paul Fagan tossed eight strong innings to lead the Lake Erie Crushers to a 2-1 victory over the Gateway Grizzlies at All Pro Freight Stadium on Wednesday night.

Fagan allowed just a run on three hits while striking out four and walking one as he captured his Frontier League-leading seventh win of the year. "He dominated again," said Lake Erie skipper John Massarelli. "He's just been pitching so well and been so consistent for us this season." The defense behind Fagan was superb all night as the Crushers turned four double plays against Gateway. "I've got one of, if not the best defenses in the league and if we get a ball hit to one of their positions, we'll get one out...if not two," said Fagan afterwards.

The Grizzlies got eight solid innings from Nate Melek, as he limited Lake Erie to just two runs despite allowing nine hits and walking four. He struck out seven but saw his record drop to 3-4 on the season.

The Crushers got on the board in the first as Gordon Gronkowski delivered an infield RBI single to score Jodam Rivera. That would be the only scoring in the game until the sixth inning, when Gateway shortstop Brandon Johnson hit a solo homer to right off of Fagan to tie the game. But in the bottom of the sixth, Arden McWilliams put Lake Erie right back on top with a solo shot to left. It was McWilliams' fifth homer of the season.

J.J. Pacella tossed a scoreless ninth inning with a pair of strikeouts to record his first save as a member of the Crushers.

Lake Erie improves to 25-18 on the season and will close out their three game series with the Grizzlies on Thursday night. Brent Lysander will get the start against Adam Bowling.
