River City Rascals News Release

YPSILANTI, MI - James Albury blanked the Rascals for seven innings and the bullpen completed the shutout in a 5-0 win Wednesday night at Oestrike Stadium. Midwest took the series with the win as River City dropped back to back series for the first time this season.

The Sliders (20-22) got all they needed with three unearned runs in the first inning. Robert Mena reached on a fielder's choice after a lead off walk to Zach Pace. Jimmy Baker walked against Daniel Howard (3-3) to make it first and second. Gilberto Zayas hit a bouncing ball to third that Andy Reilly misplaced to load the bases. Robbie Knapp grounded out to first to plate the first run and Clay McCord singled two more home for a 3-0 lead.

Albury (6-1) proved his All-Star merit with seven shutout innings, allowing only two hits with six strikeouts.

Midwest tacked on two more in the fourth on three consecutive singles. Zayas and Knapp singled and advanced to second and third on a Danny Sawyer passed ball. McCord struck again with another two run single to make it 5-0.

Howard was the tough luck loser, surrendering five runs (two earned) on six hits in his seven innings of work. The right-hander struck out four hitters and walked two.

Kevin Reynolds, Jorge Gutierrez, and Reilly had the only three hits for River City, all of which were singles.

McCord finished 3-3 with a double and four runs batted in to improve to 4-4 against the Rascals this season.

The Rascals will look to avoid the sweep tomorrow night against the Sliders. Tyler Musselwhite (3-2) will face Jeff Fischer (2-0) on the mound. Game time is set for 6:05 p.m.
