Express Get Taylor Ellington from Columbus

Hoffman Estates, IL - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, announced today that defenseman Taylor Ellington has been assigned to the Chicago Express by the Columbus Blue Jackets (NHL). Ellington was under contract with the Vancouver Canucks (NHL), and had been playing for the Kalamazoo Wings. His rights were traded to Columbus as part the deal that sent Blue Jackets forward Samuel Pahlsson to Vancouver.

Ellington, 23, has played in 55 games with the Kalamazoo Wings this season, netting seven goals and 15 assists for 22 points. He has also collected a +3 rating, and also appeared in one game with the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League this past Sunday. The 6-2, 209 pound rear guard has played in 20 AHL games with Manitoba and Chicago, scoring two goals and three assists for five points. His ECHL career includes 106 games between the Victoria Salmon Kings and Kalamazoo Wings where he has 34 points on eight goals and 26 assists. He was drafted by the Vancouver Canucks in the second round, #33 overall, in the 2007 entry draft.

The Victoria, BC, native played five seasons in the WHL before turning pro, all with the Everett Silvertips. His best season came in his final year in the league, where he had six goals and 26 assists along with 130 PIM. The 26 assists and 32 points were tops among Silvertips defensemen. Ellington also participated in the Canadian Hockey League Top Prospects game in 2006-07.

The Express host Toledo at the Sears Centre Arena on Wednesday and Saturday, and close the weekend against the Wheeling Nailers on Sunday. On Saturday, fans will get a chance to grab a Chicago Express Rally Towel, courtesy of Biggers Chevrolet, as they enter the building.
