Explorers Struggle In Loss To Winnipeg

Sioux City, IA - The Sioux City Explorers had nothing go their way on Tuesday night, falling to Winnipeg 11-1 at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.

Winnipeg came out with a bang, scoring six runs in the first inning to take an early 6-0 lead over Sioux City. Goldeyes right-fielder David Grohm cleared the bases with a three-run double. An RBI triple by Wes Darvill scored the fourth and fifth runs. The Goldeyes made it an even six runs in the top half, with another RBI double, hit by Casio Grider.

The Winnipeg Goldeyes never looked back after the first inning, scoring runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings, giving them an astounding eleven runs on the game.

Sioux City managed to score one run in the game. Explorers shortstop Nate Sampson smashed a solo-homer in the bottom of the fourth inning, but the X's wouldn't be able to overcome their deep deficit. Final score, Goldeyes 11, Sioux City 1 at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.

Goldeyes starting pitcher Edwin Carl (2-1) received the win for Winnipeg, going seven solid innings with only one run allowed while recording seven strikeouts.

X's right-hander Eric Wordekemper (1-2) was charged with the loss, allowing seven runs (six earned) on seven hits and two walks in only three innings pitched.
