Wichita Wingnuts News Release
Prior to today's game in Kansas City, the Wingnuts have announced the following roster moves:
- Signed free agent C Martin Medina
- Signed free agent RHP Chad Nading
A 21st round selection of the White Sox in 2011 out of Cal State Bakersfield, Medina joins the Wingnuts after most recently suiting up in the Toronto Blue Jays organization. After spending his first four and a half minor league seasons with the White Sox, Medina was traded to Toronto last June, and spent the remainder of his campaign with High-A Dunedin and Double-A New Hampshire in the Blue Jays system.
Drafted twice, Nading did not sign either time he was drafted, first electing to attend college after the Detroit Tigers selected him in the 36th round of the 2006 draft out of high school, then electing to pitch one more season at UNLV rather than signing with the Texas Rangers after they made him a 37th round pick in 2009. After one more season with the Rebels, Nading latched on with the San Diego Padres, pitching one season with the AZL Padres before spending 2011 and 2012 in the Frontier and North American Baseball Leagues.
___
After wiping out a four-run ninth inning deficit and eventually prevailing in 14 innings last night against Kansas City, the Wingnuts aim for their first series win in 2016 as they continue their three-game set with the T-Bones tonight at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

'NUTS RALLY; OUTLAST KC
Trailing 5-1 entering the ninth and held without a hit since the first, the Wichita Wingnuts appeared to be on the brink of dropping their series opener to the Kansas City T-Bones Monday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. However, the Wingnuts rallied to tie the score in the ninth, and eventually took a 7-5 win in 14 innings. Brent Dean started the rally, lining one off the pitcher and ending up on second after an error. Leo Vargas followed by drilling a two-run homer, his first as a professional, to cut the lead to two. Christian Stringer followed with a single, and with Wichita down to their last out, Brent Clevlen launched the tying home run which sent the game into extras. Outside of a bases loaded chance for Wichita in the 10th, neither team put much together in terms of threats until the 14th. T.J. Mittelstaedt led off with a double, and after Dustin Geiger reached, Richard Prigatano brought both home with a triple to give the Wingnuts a 7-5 lead. Jesse Pratt finished off his three scoreless innings in the bottom half, giving the rookie righty his first pro win, and the Wingnuts the series opener.
WHAT A RELIEF
Having had to soak up 12 and a third innings in the last two games of the most recent homestand, the Wichita bullpen was put to the test once again last night, having to cover nine of the 14 innings. Once again the relief corps came through for the Wingnuts, as the quintet of Chase Johnson, Kevin Osaki, Jesse Pratt, Frankie Reed, and Fabian Roman gave up just two runs over those nine frames to keep the Wingnuts within striking distance of the T-Bones. It was Osaki who came on first, going an inning and a third before Johnson entered to the get the final two outs of the seventh. Roman was the only one to yield any runs as he allowed a pair in the eighth. Reed retired the first eight batters he faced on his way to a season-high three scoreless frames, before Pratt came on to collect three scoreless frames of his own and earn his first professional win and also as tie his career-high with three strikeouts. The Wingnuts bullpen ERA now sits at 4.85 for the season, as they have chopped roughly three and a half runs off of their collective earned run average from their high-water mark of 8.38 on May 26.
