Texas AirHogs News Release
AMARILLO, Texas - The AirHogs made it 2 in a row Monday night, downing St. Paul 12-3 behind a 15-hit assault that featured home runs by Burt Reynolds, Mike Miller, and Devon Rodriguez. The squad scored 10 of its 12 runs with 2 outs to open its Amarillo schedule with a resounding win.
Lefty Ethan Carnes got the ball to start for the AirHogs. He settled down well after allowing a run on a base hit by Tony Thomas in the 1st. He would last 7 without surrendering another earned run. He struck out 4 en route to his 2nd win of the season.
It was a different story for St. Paul starter John Straka. Pitching with a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st, he surrendered LF Burt Reynold's 8th home run of the season over the left field wall to even the score. The AirHogs would add 2 more on RBIs by RF Cody Lenahan and DH Will DuPont in the 2nd.
In the 3rd, Miller blasted his 4th longball of the season to score himself and Austin Gallagher to open up a 6-1 advantage.
With the squad leading 7-3 in the 6th and 2 outs, Rodriguez slammed a 1-1 Straka offering over the right field fence. His first home run of the young season put the game out of reach.
Miller would add 2 more RBIs in the 9th on a base hit to score Reynolds and Gallagher. Miller finished with 4 RBIs, Reynolds scored 3 times, and every spot in the order reached at least once. It was the 2nd straight game the team has hit 3 home runs. The AirHogs lead the American Association with 27 roundtrippers this season.
Carnes got his 2nd W, while Straka took his 2nd loss. The teams will reset and battle tomorrow in Game 2 of 3 at Potter County Memorial Stadium. RHP Palmer Betts will get the ball at 7:05 to start for the AirHogs. The Saints will use RHP Alec Crawford to try to halt a season-worst 3-game losing streak.
A live radio broadcast of the game will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs.
The AirHogs welcome Wichita to Potter County Memorial after they conclude play with the Saints Wednesday. Ticketing information for the entire week-long homestand in Amarillo is available at airhogsbaseball.com.
