Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (6-8-0) suffered a 5-1 defeat at the hands of the Greenville Grrrowl (6-7-1) on Wednesday night at Germain Arena. The win pushed Greenville to a 4-1-1 record in their last six games, while the loss dropped Florida to 1-4-0 in their last five games.
The Grrrowl jumped out to an early lead, scoring twice in the first 3:11 of the contest. Colin Pepperall slipped a shot into an empty net to open the scoring just 1:26 into the game after a turnover behind the 'Blades goal by goaltender Rob Zepp led to the Greenville chance. The Grrrowl extended their lead to 2-0 at 3:11 of the period on Alex Kojevnikov's third goal of the year.
Trailing 2-0 into the second period, the 'Blades brought themselves back to life at 8:03 of the second period when Tom Reimann scored his first goal of the season with a blast from the top of the left circle that beat Greenville net-minder Mike Brodeur on the glove side to cut the Grrrowl lead in half. However, two late second period goals by Greenville gave the momentum back to the visiting team. Tomas Micka and Richard Pitirri scored at 14:54 and 17:06 respectively to open a 4-1 Greenville lead at the second intermission. Micka's goal came in a 4-on-4 situation and Pitirri notched his fifth goal of the season on a 5-on-3 power play goal.
The third period began with the Everblades putting goaltender Craig Kowalski between the pipes for Zepp. The Grrrowl sealed the victory at 8:13 of the third period on Vladimir Gusev's first goal of the year completing a 2-on-1 rush up ice for the 5-1 Greenville lead.
Zepp took the loss for Florida allowing four goals on 19 shots to fall to 3-5-0. Kowalski stopped five of the six shots he faced in relief of Zepp. Brodeur earned the win in goal by stopping 30 of 31 Florida shots to bring his record to 3-4-0. Florida finished the night 0-for-5 on the power play, while the Grrrowl closed out the night 1-for-5 on the man advantage.
