Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads improved its season record against the Alaska Aces to a perfect 3-0 with a 2-0 win at the Bank of America Thanksgiving Eve, and goaltender Frank Doyle recorded his first professional shutout. The 4,267 fans in attendance also witnessed the Boise debut of the Aces' recent roster addition, Scott Gomez, a two-time Stanley Cup winner, NHL All-Star and 2000 rookie of the year.

In the first period, Idaho's David Morisset extended his goal-scoring streak to four games when he scored the first goal of the game at 11:40. As the Aces tried to clear their zone, Morisset intercepted a pass, kicked the puck forward with his skate and beat Alaska's netminder Peter Aubry top shelf. Idaho outshot Alaska 9-5 in the first period.

Idaho had its first power play of the game at 6:51 of the second period, but couldn't convert. Both teams played a tight defensive period, foiling the few scoring chances that developed. Idaho only had one shot on goal, while the Aces fired seven at Idaho's net.

Early in the third period, Doyle made a beautiful stop on Chris Minard who found himself alone in front of Idaho's crease with the puck. Dave Cornacchia and Gomez wound up in the penalty box on coincidental minors after their second scuffle of the night at 5:47. Alaska had its first man-advantage midway through the third, but was unsuccessful in its quest to tie the game. The Aces pulled its goaltender with just over a minute left, and Idaho's Ben Keup found the empty net to seal the game with his first of the season.

Idaho improved its record to 10-4-0, while the Aces fell to 8-7-1.

The two teams play Game 2 of the three-game series Friday night at the Bank of America Centre. The puck drops at 7:10 pm
