Augusta Lynx News Release

The Augusta Lynx sped out to a two-goal lead in the first period on Wednesday night, only to see it slip away in the third period during a 3-2 shootout loss to the Pee Dee Pride in front of 2,210 fans at the Augusta Richmond-County Civic Center.

Sean Connolly opened the first period scoring for the Lynx with a power play goal just 27 seconds into the team's first man advantage. Ken Magowan and Jamie Johnson set up the goal at 10:21 to make it 1-0. The goal gives Connolly points in his last four consecutive games, three of them goals over that span. Johnson would make it 2-0 at 18:21 just seconds after Augusta's second power play expired, keeping the puck in at the point to beat Nick Boucher blocker side for a two-goal lead at the end of the first frame.

A second period that yielded no scoring gave way to an early goal at 1:28 of the first period by Kevin Cooper to energize the Pride and close the Lynx lead to one. Scoring chances would go back and forth between the two clubs, and finally the Pride ended up evening the game on Brian Collins' goal at 10:10 of the third period when he ramped a shot up an Augusta defenseman's stick. Tempers would escalate in the game, with more physical play marking the scoreless remainder of regulation and a goal-less overtime. In the shootout, Augusta seized a 2-1 lead after three rounds on markers from Connolly and Josh St. Louis, but Gregg Johnson evened things up in round four. The teams would soldier on until round nine when Kyle Kidney finally marked again for Pee Dee, while Mike Sandbeck missed to close out the game and give the Pride the two points. Jason Saal made 27 saves and stopped six of nine shooters in the shootout in earning the shootout point. Boucher stopped 20 Lynx chances on net and seven of nine in the extra session.

With the point, Augusta is now 4-7-2 on the year, and will be back in action this Friday night at 7:35 pm against the Pensacola IcePilots. Tickets are available through the Lynx office at 712 Telfair by calling (706) 724-4ICE, through all TicketMaster locations, or on line at www.TicketMaster.com.
